The challenges faced by families, schools, and community life in providing support for the development of children integrating their language, cultural background, and neurodiversity shape MultiLinguAbilites' holistic and collaborative approach. We strive to understand the unique needs and challenges of each family, school, and community and work together to find innovative and effective solutions.
MultiLinguAbilites operates from a strengths-based Neurodiversity paradigm. This means that we recognize and value the diversity of ways of thinking, learning, and communicating of each child. Instead of focusing on what may be considered "deficiencies" or "disabilities", we work with children and their families to develop their unique strengths and skills and support their development and growth over time. In addition, we promote the inclusion and participation of all children in school and community life.
Based on the needs of the family and child according to their language and cultural background, we provide individualized and personalized support. We work with families and children to identify their learning and development goals and develop personalized action plans to help achieve those goals. Moreover cognitive abilities like thinking skills, learning to read, and self-esteem among others, strengthen thanks to bilingualism. The punctual facilitation of both languages will help youngsters to fully develop their potential and families, to build their own capacity.

With diversified experience and knowledge gained from her practice with spanish speaking clients and multicultural and multilingual families, Lucero Vargas-Almeida, a registered bilingual speech-language pathologist in Alberta and Canada, started Multilinguabilities since 2003. She has three multilingual children and frequently gives talks on multilingualism and intercultural activity. Lucero has developed and implemented individualized programs adapted to the clients’ needs and environments (home, school and community) as well as several initiatives and resources to support families and teachers such as MAPP: Multilingual Approaches for Parents and Professionals. She’s actively involved in different projects at the Multicultural Health Brokers Coop. She is the mother of three multilingual children and frequently gives talks on multilingualism and intercultural practice. The development of several programs and resources to support families and teachers such as MAPP ( Multilingual Approaches for Parents and Professionals ) as well as those including the implementation of individualized ones adapted to the clients’ needs and environments, speak to the diversified expertise and knowledge she’s gained in her practice over the years.
